Portland’s Top Biological Dentistry
Biological dental care, sometimes referred to as Holistic dental care has been growing in popularity in recent years, and for good reason! It provides natural alternatives to traditional dental procedures that often involve chemicals and even toxic elements.
At Division Street Dental, the health and well-being of all of our PDX neighbors and community members is our priority, so we’re excited to provide biological dental services in the City of Roses.
What is a Portland Biological Dentist?
You might be wondering by now what biological dentistry is and how it’s different from traditional dentistry. While traditional dentistry tends to focus mainly on checking for and then treating symptoms as they arise, biological dentistry tries to find the actual cause of the symptoms so that it can be addressed, eliminating further symptoms. As biological dentists, we understand that your mouth is just one part of your whole body and that illness and disease in other parts of your body can manifest as problems in your mouth.
Instead of just treating symptoms, we look at the patient as a whole – we assess the health of your entire body and your mind! We know that stress, diet, sleep patterns, workout habits, hormones, and other factors can play a major role in oral diseases and inflammation. Once we’ve found the root cause of your symptoms, we can treat both for long-term healing and wellbeing.
Natural Medicine
We also use different materials to treat patients. Specifically, we use organic, natural, and biocompatible substances that are safe for humans. Traditional dentistry still uses mercury, fluoride, bleaching chemicals, and other toxic materials that you would not put into your body!
Biological dentists go to dental school to earn their DDS or DMD degree just like any traditional dentists, and we offer many of the same services like bi-annual cleanings and exams, fillings, teeth whitening, dental implants, and periodontal disease treatment. The main difference is that we provide these services using materials that are safe for human consumption (e.g., mercury-free solutions), and we work with patients to diagnose the root cause of their symptoms.
Are Holistic and Biological Dental Care the Same?
Biological dentistry and holistic dentistry are basically one and the same, with the terms used interchangeably in many instances. However, technically speaking, biological dentistry refers to understanding the patient as a whole with many factors affecting oral health, while holistic dentistry specifically refers to using natural therapies to prevent and treat symptoms.
A Portland Biological Dentist Treats the Whole Person
It is only recently that the mouth-body relationship has been more fully explored since traditional dentistry paid little attention to a patient’s health beyond symptoms in their mouths.
Now we know that lifestyle habits like drinking in excess, poor nutrition, poor sleep hygiene, and smoking can have serious impacts on oral health and can be linked to a host of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and even Alzheimer
The Key Difference between a Portland Biological Dentist vs. a Regular Dentist
As Portland biological dentists, we look closely at how the state of your body can affect the state of your mouth and vice versa. For instance, if you have issues with unexplained headaches, insomnia, poor posture, or even joint pain, a holistic dentist will know that a misaligned bite may be the culprit.
With traditional dentistry, you would probably never even mention these symptoms to the dentist and your physician may not think to check your jaw alignment, leaving you stuck with this mysterious pain! Treating the whole person allows us to fix these root causes and alleviate symptoms for good.
What Should I Expect at My First Biological Dentistry Appointment?
A biological dentistry appointment will feel a little bit different than a traditional dentistry appointment. When you arrive at Division Street Dental as a new patient, we’ll dive deep into your medical and dental health history so we can learn as much as possible about you and make sure that we use the treatment options that are best suited to your needs.
Your first appointment will last about 90 minutes to review all of your information and do a full dental examination with our biological dentist. After that, we will customize your holistic treatment options that best fit your needs.
The Whole-Body Approach
The oral cavity is the body’s entry port for nutrients, but it also plays a role in detoxing and keeping us healthy. If something goes wrong with your mouth (bad teeth or decreased saliva), you’re likely to have problems throughout your whole body too!
Dental materials such as fluoride, amalgam fillings, and nickel introduce toxicity into the body. These currents affect health in various ways depending on factors in your body. They can lead to compromised health or chronic degenerative diseases like arthritis due to electric current affecting cells’ ability for self-repairing mechanisms.
As a member of the Holistic Dental Association and The International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT), our Portland biological dentists look at the human body and its connection to the oral cavity.
Your treatment plan is carefully customized to you and your needs. Rather than just focusing on your teeth, Dr. Noor looks for the root cause. We want your dental visit to feel stress-free, pain-free, in a relaxed and comfortable environment.
Dr. Noor Khaki is a biological dentist with an interest in both preventative and therapeutic dentistry who has the ability to work collaboratively with MDs, Naturopaths, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, and other medical advisors so that your best interests are taken care of as you see fit.
