Do I Need a Dental Implant?

Your oral health plays a huge role in your overall health, so while a missing tooth might not seem like a big deal, it can have negative effects on your whole body.

Keep Your Jaw Healthy

One of the biggest impacts of a missing tooth is the deterioration of the jawbone. Your jawbone requires regular stimulation through your teeth from chewing, biting, and speaking forces. Without these constant forces, the supporting jawbone structure under a missing tooth can deteriorate by around 25% within just one year.

Fortunately, an implant can prevent this deterioration. Our state-of-the-art zirconia implants is biocompatible, and safe to use in the body. Your jaw bone will safely integrate and fuse with the new ceramic implant much differently than the standard titanium implants. Ceramic implants provide the same forces as a natural tooth structure to maintain bone structure and integrity.

Dental Implants Last Longer

Dental implants can last over 25 years, which is much longer than other tooth-replacement methods – bridges last 5-10 years, and dentures only last 5-10 years. So, while dental implants are more expensive than the other options up front, they are often cheaper over a patient’s lifetime since they don’t need to be replaced nearly as often.

Types of Dental Implants We Offer

We offer several different types of dental implant treatment options to meet your specific needs.

Single Tooth Replacement

If you’ve lost just one tooth due to tooth decay, gum disease, or an injury, or if you are missing a tooth due to any other reason, we can replace it with a single tooth dental implant surgery.

The implant will consist of three pieces: a ceramic implant into the jawbone, a porcelain abutment, and a ceramic crown which is the visible part that looks like a tooth.. We use ceramic crowns because they are non-toxic, biocompatible, metal-free and they are closest in appearance to your natural teeth.

Implant-Supported Bridges

If you are missing several teeth in a row, we can fill the gap with an implant-supported bridge. This is simpler and more affordable than replacing each tooth with an individual implant and still provides beautiful natural-looking results.

Full Mouth Dental Implants

You may have heard of the “snap-on” denture option. If you’ve lost an entire row of teeth or all of your teeth entirely, we offer full-arch restoration, which is similar to dentures except that the replacement teeth snap into place on the implants. This offers greater stability than traditional dentures and is currently standard of care at our practice.

Dental Implant Costs in Portland

The cost of dental implants varies based on the scope of the surgery and whether there are additional steps needed before the implant can be carried out. These steps include a CT scan and imaging, tooth extraction and/or bone grafting if necessary, LPRF, implant surgery, and the final restoration when the crown is put in place. Naturally, a full-mouth dental implant will be more expensive than a single tooth implant. But, the details of your specific case will dictate the exact cost.

For a personalized estimate, give us a call today to set up a consultation with one of our dental specialists! We’ll evaluate your teeth and decide on a treatment plan, and we’ll be happy to go over pricing and answer any questions you may have about the process.

Dental Implant FAQ

Here are a few of the most frequently questions we get asked by fellow Portlanders.  If you don’t see a question you are looking for, feel free to call us during our business hours.

Dental implants are tooth replacement devices that are surgically implanted into the jaw, providing much more stability and a more natural look when compared to traditional replacement options which sit on top of the gums. The jawbone eventually fuses to the ceramic post of the implant through the process of osseointegration, holding the tooth securely in place and preventing deterioration of the jawbone.

Dental implants are pain-free and you will be completely anesthetized. We will go over sedation options before the procedure and choose the one that will best suit you. Depending on how extensive the surgery is, you can expect to heal in a couple of weeks to a few months.
